Since its inception in 2002, the Irish NGO has been a catalyst for development empowerment in East Kenya –kick starting opportunities in which people are encouraged to flourish, partnerships are encouraged to flourish and true development is encouraged to flourish.
It is this concept of partnership that the charity has excelled at, empowering communities to realise their dreams of personal and economic freedom, all the while providing support and friendship.
This collaborative approach can be seen throughout Brighter Communities Worldwide’ Health, Education, Economic Empowerment and Water Programmes; it is the thread that weaves hope, support and encouragement throughout all its work.
People are key to the Brighter Communities Worldwide model – people making choices about their own development based on their values.
Co-Founder of Brighter Communities Worldwide, Maria Kidney, is hopeful that the spirit of generosity that have moved Irish people to unstintingly support their work over the past two decades will lead to a hugely successful ‘Giving Tuesday’.
“Our supporters and advocates are a joy; they have shared our hopes, dreams, challenges and successes since the foundation of ‘Brighter Communities Worldwide’ and for this we thank them so, so much.
They have believed in the dream of empowering local communities and are a true embodiment of the beautiful African proverb- --'If you want to go fast, go alone- if you want to go far, go together’
Supporting Brighter Communities Worldwide on Giving Tuesday will help keep girls in school, providing vital education that will offer them greater choices and, ultimately, a chance to become financially independent. Each donation makes a difference.
The Charity is fundraising for a project supporting families struggling under the impact of COVID 19, conflict and climate change . Just €10 will provide soap and water for handwashing facilities at home, €27 provides a mother and baby kit and €41 will support training for health care workers around COVID 19 vaccination .
Each donation will go further with the Global Giving bonus funds.
