GivingTuesday Ireland is a movement that celebrates the generosity of Irish communities. Taking place on Tuesday 3rd December, it is a day where everyone, everywhere can do something to support the charitable causes and campaigns that mean so much to them.

Michael Darragh Macauley, former Dublin GAA star and CEO of Sanctuary Runners, said:
“It's very easy these days to get swept away in the commercialisation of Cyber Thursday, Black Friday and Christmas in general. GivingTuesday presents an opportunity to do something positive for society and think about those less fortunate.”

Charities make a profound and tangible contribution to Ireland’s economy. They support individuals in securing employment, create jobs, and invest in local economies. Charities also provide vital opportunities for communities to connect, fostering relationships and building social capital that are essential for societal functioning and economic growth.

Aubrey McCarthy, founder and Chair of Tiglin and social entrepreneur, said:
“Charities rely on the generous giving of others, charities are reaching areas that government departments are unable to reach effectively. Without initiatives like GivingTuesday, charities are less visible and under more strain to survive. For businesses, these collaborations demonstrate a commitment to social responsibility, strengthening their reputation and building trust with customers.”

This GivingTuesday, Charities Institute Ireland is calling on Irish businesses to harness the Power of People #POP – their colleagues, their customers, their network – to give of their time, experience, advocacy or funds to support a local charity.

Aoife Barron, Senior Customer Success Manager at GoFundMe, said:
“As the most generous country on GoFundMe, Ireland leads the world in its power to change lives. Giving Tuesday is a time that exemplifies the spirit of generosity of the Irish people and provides businesses with the opportunity to make a real difference to their communities. On GoFundMe, we see Irish companies of all sizes stepping up to help important causes and the impact they have is inspiring.”

From organising a coffee morning or volunteering at your local sports club to donating goods or services, small acts can create big change, not just for the charities, but for the companies, too.

Áine Myler, CEO of Charities Institute Ireland commented:
“Irish businesses are already dedicating substantial time and resources to charity. GivingTuesday is the perfect platform to showcase these contributions, amplifying their impact and motivating others to join in, while also strengthening internal culture and achieving their ESG goals.”
