ABOUT GIVING TUESDAY
GivingTuesday Ireland is a campaign which celebrates and enhances generosity in our communities.
Every year, not-for-profits give time and energy to people, animals, and the environment, taking care of their health and well-being. Individuals generously give their time, money, goods and voices to ensure charities can continue their important work. Businesses give their expertise and resources to help support the communities they work in.
GivingTuesday is a day where every part of a community comes together collaborate and continue the support needed, to ensure healthy and happy communities in Ireland.
GivingTuesday is fueled by the power of social media and the generosity of people. The campaign provides a platform for individuals to participate in and encourage the donation of time, money, goods and voices to address local challenges.
GivingTuesday also allows not-for-profits, community organisations, charities, businesses and schools to collaborate and lead the GivingTuesday campaign in the way that best suits their communities. The day is used by organisations as an opportunity to encourage and amplify the actions of individuals.
GivingTuesday started in New Yorkâs 92nd Street Y in 2012, which served as the catalyst and incubator for GivingTuesday, with the United Nations Foundation providing their strategic and communications expertise.
GivingTuesday has spread to more than 70 countries across the world. Each country participates on the same day, which brings together individuals and communities from across the world to celebrate generosity together.
In 2020, Ireland was invited to join the campaign. Powered by Charities Institute Ireland it is our hope that #GivingTuesday will be established as a day that benefits charities across the country.
