ABOUT GIVING TUESDAY
Giving Tuesday is a global day of generosity, celebrated in over 90 countries on the Tuesday after Black Friday and Cyber Monday.
It began in 2012 with a simple idea: to encourage people everywhere to do good.
Since then, it has become a worldwide movement that inspires people to give time, skills, money, and advocacy to the causes they care about. In Ireland, Giving Tuesday brings people together to support charities and communities in creative, meaningful ways.
In Ireland, Giving Tuesday highlights the many ways people and organisations give back.
Charities, communities, and businesses take part each year by thanking supporters, raising awareness, and encouraging generosity in all its forms.
Our campaign shines a spotlight on the vital role of charity Trustees — the volunteer Boards who guide, govern, and strengthen every charity. It’s a day to thank those who already serve and to inspire others to consider how their skills and experience could make a difference.
Every charity in Ireland is led by a volunteer Board of Trustees. Trustees give their time, skills, and leadership to ensure charities are run to the highest standards, delivering real impact for communities.
They play a critical role in governance, strategy, and safeguarding, often behind the scenes and without recognition. Giving Tuesday Ireland is an opportunity to celebrate these unsung heroes, share their stories, and encourage more people to step forward. By supporting Boards, we support the strength of the entire sector.
Powered by Charities Institute Ireland, our aim is for Giving Tuesday to be a national day that celebrates the vital role of volunteer Trustees and strengthens charities across the country.
