As Giving Tuesday approaches, it’s a great time to pause and think about the difference businesses can make in the communities where they operate. Celebrated worldwide on the Tuesday following Black Friday and Cyber Monday, Giving Tuesday invites us to look beyond shopping and focus instead on generosity and support for causes that mean the most to us.
For us at Ecclesiastical Insurance Ireland, this commitment to community is at the heart of everything that we do. Being owned by a charity, we direct all our available profits towards charitable causes, which allows us to work directly alongside Irish charities, fostering sustainable change across the country. Our Movement for Good awards are just one example of this commitment—a programme that reflects our belief that corporate giving should be an ongoing priority, not a one-off gesture.
Why Giving Tuesday Matters for Businesses of All Sizes
This Giving Tuesday, we encourage businesses, large and small, to use this day as a way to amplify their commitment to Irish communities. With so many charities working tirelessly across Ireland, there’s no shortage of ways to get involved and make a difference—whether by matching employee donations, engaging in corporate volunteering, or partnering with local not-for-profit organisations. We believe that Giving Tuesday isn’t about a single day of giving; it’s about building lasting partnerships with organisations that share our values. It’s a chance to move from donations alone to sustained support that truly contributes to the long-term success of Irish charities.
Our Movement for Good Awards: Building Community Impact
The Movement for Good awards, an initiative of our parent company, Benefact Group, provide vital financial support to charities making a difference across Ireland and the UK. Each year, charities are nominated by the public to receive one of many grants awarded to organisations across diverse areas such as arts, social inclusion, education, and disability services. This approach helps us reach those working directly within communities, where support is most needed, and where flexible funding can make a difference in the scope of projects charities can take on.
This year, some of the Irish charities receiving grants through our Movement for Good, include the Irish Museum of Modern Art, Music Network, Enable Ireland, and Children’s Books Ireland. Each recipient is using their funding to support a unique project aimed at addressing community needs. For example, Music Network’s Lullaby Residency brings young children and migrant families together through shared musical traditions, promoting inclusion and cultural exchange. Enable Ireland’s iPad Hubs project, on the other hand, expands access to assistive technology for children with disabilities, helping them to communicate, learn, and participate more fully in their communities.
Through the Movement for Good awards, we provide charities with the flexibility to develop and deliver programmes aligned with their missions. This empowers them to respond to the needs of their communities in impactful ways, helping to build a more inclusive and resilient Ireland.
The Role of Purpose in Business
