Trustees play a vital role in providing strategic guidance and governance, ensuring charities can deliver essential services to communities across Ireland. This Giving Tuesday we’re shining a light on Boards of Trustees across the country. Here we chat to Mark Doyle, a Board Member with Children’s Books Ireland & a Board Member with Friends of the Elderly.

Can you tell us a little about you?

I’m a fundraising professional with several years’ experience across all areas of fundraising, from national campaigns and community engagement to corporate partnerships, philanthropy, and individual giving. I currently serve as Chair of the Cii Corporate Forum, where I work with peers across the sector to strengthen collaboration and champion best practice in corporate giving.

What does being a Charity Trustee mean to you?

Professionally, it really helped me develop my leadership, finance and governance experience. And then personally, for me, it gave me a real sense of purpose.

What advice would you give to someone considering becoming a Trustee?

I’d say absolutely go for it, you don’t need to be an expert, and it’s a great opportunity for yourself and also to give back to society.

What one word would you use to sum up being a Trustee?
