Trustees play a vital role in providing strategic guidance and governance, ensuring charities can deliver essential services to communities across Ireland. This Giving Tuesday we’re shining a light on Boards of Trustees across the country. Here we chat to David Bunworth, Chair of Dublin Cemeteries Trust.

Can you tell us a little about you?

I’m the former Managing Director of Bord Gáis Energy and former Commercial Director of Aer Lingus. Throughout my career I held marketing-led roles at Guinness, Esat and Sterling Health. I’m currently the Chair of Dublin Cemeteries Trust.

What does being a Charity Trustee mean to you?

On a professional level, it’s very important that you understand the role of the director. From a personal point of view you get a huge amount of energy because I retired from business ten years ago and I’ve got a massive amount of energy now working with good young people.

What advice would you give to someone considering becoming a Trustee?

You’ve got to show integrity; you’ve got to show support.

What one word would you use to sum up being a Trustee?

Involvement.
